Viva Viagra, or not…

On a Saturday afternoon in August, the Sheraton Towers Ballroom was filled to bursting with mostly men attending the Aging Male public forum. There was room for 700 but 1,000 must have showed up. Tan Shee Lah listened in.

Doctors talked about hormones, nutrition, heart, health and wat everyone was waiting for, sex in middle age. Chief of the Department of Urology (Changi General Hospital), Dr. Peter Lim’s light handling of a serious subject had the audience rolling in the aisles — “This guy’s a comedian, ” the man next to me guffawed. Here are extracts.

Couple involvement

“We’ve discovered a lot of things over this one year while giving people viagra. We found that men were depressed over sexual and prostate problems. However, erectile dysfunction is a couple’s problem. (to the audience) I am glad your wives are with you. It shows a unified approach. Both partners are definitely affected. The examination of a person with sexual problems should be undertaken with the sexual partner because relationship problems may be the primary or actually the aggravation factor. ”

“So if you come to my clinic with your wife, I’m very happy because I know that you have the support of you wife. I once treated a man, and then got a phone call from his wife.

‘Doctor, I’m coming to kill you.’ she said. ‘You made my husband potent. Now every night he’s not at home.’

“Now, why is that relationships are important? If you com alone, there’s a lack of intimacy. You may have communication difficulties with you partner which might lead to other problems.
